Trap Pond State Park, Delaware

Trap Pond State Park, in Southern Delaware is a nice wilderness retreat area that has it all. It features Hiking, Camping, Canoeing, Boating, Fishing, and has some great nature programs. From Trap Pond, It is an easy drive to both the Delaware Seashore State Park, and Fenwick Island State Park.

Trap Pond hosts the most northerly occuring stand of Bald Cypress Trees on the East Coast. It has great pavillions, and picnicking areas, nice cabins, and even yurts. A yurt is the name for a circular tent about 16 feet in diameter which is on an elevated wooden platform, so that anyone afraid of creepy crawlies may have fewer interfaces with those critters and bugs down below.

There are nice hotels and motels nearby for those preferring a more standard nights sleep.

Killens Pond State Park, Delaware

Killens Pond State Park in Delaware is a great place to take the family. It features a fantastic water park, in a beautiful natural environment. Whether you like Picnicking, Swimming, Water Slides, Camping, Fishing, Hiking, participation in Nature programs, Killens pond has a nice balance of activities bound to please the entire family. There are nice cabins there available for year-round rental too.

Killens Pond State Park is conveniently close to other points of interest in Delaware, including the nearby beaches of Cape Henlopen and Fort Miles, Harrington Raceway and Fairgrounds, the Prime Hook wildlife refuge, Rehoboth Beach, Dover Downs, and the John Dickinson mansion.

There are a number of lovely accomodations available in the area, including cottages, cabins, hotels, motels, and nice lodgings.

Fort Miles and Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware

Fort Miles Historic area, located at Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware, features an old World War II Gun Battery, various Special Events, and the Living History of its existant Artillery Park.

At the mouth of the Delaware Bay, Fort Miles formed a vital part of the Country's Coastal Defense system during the second World War. The Fort Miles Historic area, located amidst beautiful rolling sand dunes, is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

World War II veterans, together with history buffs, love The old gun battery, aka battery #519, which had a gun able to fire 15 miles out to sea. It is a remnant time capsule of Delaware's part in the war in the Atlantic. There is also a Fire Control Tower from the period, and restored gun barracks- all of which are all available to tour. War reenactors have a great time descending on the park at various times of the year to relive various events of the time period.

There are several very nice Hotels, Motels, and Lodgings available in the area for very reasonable prices. Nearby Rehoboth features a beautiful and quaint boardwalk, where a person can stroll along, enjoy boardwalk fries, drink a birch beer, and even munch on salt water taffy.
